First Baptist Church of Rochester has a fully functional and accessible building, including a 300 seat Sanctuary, a Chapel with Baptistery (seating up to 80), a fellowship hall/gymnasium (capacity, 223 persons), and a number of classrooms and meeting spaces.
The building is widely used by community service and arts groups, including two Alcoholics Anonymous groups (noon each weekday and Friday evenings), an Al-Anon group (Monday evenings), and Neutral Ground, a support organization for persons experiencing life changes, particularly divorce and grief. (Meets Thursday evenings.)
On Tuesdays the halls are filled with the lovely sounds produced by the American Recorder Society. Other craft and art groups that meet in the facility regularly are The Weavers Guild, The Genesee Valley Garden Club, The Genesee Valley Quilt Club, and a scrapbooking group.
We house the offices of Healthcore Counseling and Consulting, run by pastoral counselors Donald F. Schwab, D. Min., Ph. D. and Judith M. Hogan, MS, CASAC. Phone: (585) 271-6190, Email: healthcore@frontiernet.net.
In September, 2005, the First Baptist congregation began sharing the building with the Slavic Bible Baptist Church. Russian language worship is conducted in our Sanctuary on Sunday afternoons. The Slavic Bible Baptist Church hosts study groups and choir practice on Saturday evenings, with evening youth functions on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The Slavic Bible Baptist Church is led by Pastor Viktor Didovets, (585) 216-2213.
