Each year the Greater Rochester Community of Churches celebrates with the greater faith communities those people who give of themselves in daily tasks to the needs of others, and put their "faith into action" as an expression of God's love and work in the world.
This year’s “Faith In Action Honoree” Rev. Barbara J. Wolin.
If the true measure of service is found in self-giving, Barbara Wolin is certainly a servant. If discernment of a moment when one’s gifts match a need is a sign of spiritual maturity, then Barbara Wolin is surely faithful. This past year Barbara brought her gifts as an ordained minister and an accountant to a significant need in the life of First Baptist Church, Rochester. Our treasurer – and last year’s Faith in Action nominee – Bernice Blake – suffered a severe injury. Barbara stepped in to become interim treasurer. She not only helped to keep the church’s financial life on a steady course, she also led the staff and trustees through a complete upgrade of the congregation’s stewardship tracking system. Barbara contributed hours of lonely labor, even as she was called upon to serve as an interim minister in another church! Moreover, Barbara has contributed significant leadership in our congregation’s deepening prayer life and wider spirituality. Barbara Wolin is truly a faithful servant, one whose faith is evidenced in action.
