Family and friends of First Baptist Church of Rochester gather to share special times together in worship several times throughout the year. We extend a invitation for you to join us for any of these special worship services. Check our church calendar for specifics on upcoming services that hold an interest for you. The calendar can be accessed through the Calendar of Events image in the top picture on the left-hand side.
To us a special service is a time we gather together outside of Sunday morning or when there is a highlighted event that makes our Sunday worship more meaningful or unique. These included Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Youth-led Service, Pentecost Sunday/Baptism Sunday, Outdoor Worship, Rally Sunday, Advent, and Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. We have had other special services over the years such as Alternative Worship Services with Jazz music on Thursday evenings, a Blue Christmas Service, and numerous musical worship events. Whatever the reason for worship, we would love for you to join us.
Palm Sunday
Children rejoice in song and wave palms, adults shout Hosanna! And the people come together as we celebrate Jesus Christ’s triumphant ride into Jerusalem. Music and celebration abounds as we begin our Holy Week journey.
Maundy Thursday
During Holy Week the faithful gather together for a simple agape meal of soup, fruit, and bread and then partake communion together as Jesus did with his disciples at the Last Supper. Our worship continues with a Tennebrae Service (a service of lights - candles) where one by one the disciples abandon our Savior. This meaningful and somber service prepares us for the Good Friday vigil and the eventual resurrection on Easter Sunday. This service is held the Thursday before Easter with the meal beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Good Friday Service
With fellow community churches of Atonement Lutheran and Edgewood Free Methodist Church, First Baptist gathers together to worship the sacrifice our Savior Jesus Christ made for each of us. Through a visual display of art and symbols we become part of this moving worship experience. Our partners share this service. Church location and time will be announced.
Easter Sunday
He is Risen! The Lord is Risen, Indeed! Our intergenerational service with Alleluias, children ringing of bells, brass instruments, our bells choir, singing and praise rejoices the risen Lord. Please join us for this special celebration service.
